FALL 2007 Katrina Clinic Orientation: September 7, 2007 from 2:30-4:30 pm in room 118.
To participate in the clinic during the fall semester, you must be a 2L or 3L; attend our fall orientation on September 7th; and commit to volunteering at least 50 hours for the semester. If you are thinking about volunteering with the clinic, please attend the training. You are not required to sign a participation agreement if you attend the training: this is your opportunity to learn about the Katrina Clinic, our clients, and our cases before making a volunteer commitment for the semester. The Katrina Clinic's next orientation will be at the beginning of the spring semester.
Loyola law students have the option to use time spent volunteering with the clinic to fulfill pro bono hour, skills credit, or independent study credits. Fifty hours of work will also satisfy your Law and Poverty requirement. The September 7, 2007 orientation is required to fulfill any of these requirements during the fall semester.

Frequently Asked Questions for Loyola Students
The Katrina Clinic works with the Student Hurricane Network for law student placements: http://www.studenthurricanenetwork.org/. Law student volunteers from around the country have worked with the Katrina Clinic to satisfy various academic requirements at their home law school. Externship, pro-bono coordinators, and professors can contact Katrina Clinic staff attorneys directly for program questions or to arrange school projects/trips. Previous law student volunteers have received public interest grants from their home law school as well as Equal Justice Works summer stipends to volunteer with the clinic.
The Katrina Clinic appreciates the tremendous contribution that volunteers make to our program and our clients. Generally, staff attorneys have found that it works best for law students and volunteer attorneys to work with the Katrina Clinic for at least two weeks—the longer, the better! Please know that we cannot accommodate volunteers for a single weekend. While we are not able to promise or predict the precise kind of work we will have when you arrive, it is more likely that law students and volunteer attorneys will have client centered work (e.g., interviews, phone calls, letter drafting) if you are volunteering with the Katrina Clinic for a longer period of time. We always have legal research topics and other projects that might involve client specific work for short-term volunteers.
